Difficult to Set UpMay 23, 2010 This game is very difficult to set up to even play it. You have to put all the sticks in the holes and they slide out a lot and you have to start over. If you can get it set up, it is a fun game, but there is a big if there.
Shoddy construction, though the game itself is funApr 23, 2010 Like some other reviewers mention, the Ker Plunk game here is an updated version of a classic game beloved by my parents and myself as children. My husband and I were eager to introduce this game to our 5-year-old and thought it would be a fun game to play with as a family. We did have fun, but the two adults (me and hubby) found the shoddy construction particularly deplorable.
Basically, the game parts consist of two plastic tubes with a plastic connector in between. These three parts are to be manually attached together and stood on the game base which is also made of plastic. The plastic color sticks are then to be inserted through the little holes in the tube connector in a crisscross pattern which will serve to hold the marbles ( which are provided in the box).
The problems with this game are mainly due to the cheap plastic parts - they are so insubstantial and moving the canister (for each player's turn) is cumbersome as a result and inadvertently jolts the marbles even further. Luckily, my 5-year-old was patient enough with the careful manipulation during each player's turn, and we did have fun, but we found the overall experience to be underwhelming.
It's actually funFeb 19, 2010 I had no idea what to expect out of this game, but my two kids (7 and 9) really enjoy playing it. Think of it as pick-up sticks with results if you are not careful. While it's not a ground-breaking toy, it is fun to play.
Essentially you place sticks through a cup in whatever design is desired and then pour the marbles in the cup. My kids actually love this part---which is rare for kids to enjoy the "set up" of a game. From there each player simply pulls out a stick one at a time, trying to prevent any marbles from falling into their zone.
The only downside is that the game does not last that long, but we simply make it a "Best of 5" to determine the winner.
I would recommend this toy for any players aged 5-10, but adults will enjoy playing it too.

Piece of C***Feb 13, 2010 I agree w/ the reviewers who remembered a different, more durable version of this game from when they were kids--and think that this version is a piece of you-know-what. It's flimsy and incredibly frustrating--no way kids could set it up to play it. What a shame. A great concept reduced to landfill because Mattel cut corners on quality.

Terrible qualityAug 15, 2009 I loved this game as a child and bought a new one for my 2 and 4 year old as a surprise. Unfortunately, it's complete junk. The tabs that hold the tube together are so flimsy that you can knock the tube apart by accident. Also, the plastic sticks are super flimsy and are not big enough in diameter to sit in the holes well. Setup is painstaking as the cheap sticks keep sliding out as you put others in.
My kids still have some fun with it, but frankly this is such junk that I am unlikely to ever buy another Hasbro product. I will be opting for wooden or non-conglomerate made toys that are better made. I certainly would have been willing to pay a few dollars more for this to be better made, but Hasbro is clearly skimping on materials to wring every last penny of profit.
Even worse, I bought this after returning "Tumblin' Monkeys", a similar game also by Hasbro. That one was even worse. I could not assemble the two plastic halves after an hour and the little tabs bent and broke very easily. When I returned it to my local store I actually suggested the not carry it, because it makes the store look bad.
