Thanks for clicking through to the "About Us" portion of Old School Toys. We find it admirable that you're reading this lengthy section of text, instead of looking at all the pretty pictures on our site.
Old Skool Toys was created in October 2009 as an assignment for an entrepreneurship class at NYU. Its founders (and classmates) include Keith Stewart, Grant Gurrola, Edlin Choi, Namrita Singh, and Isaac Miller.
When tasked with coming up with ideas for a webstore, we threw around a lot of mostly bad ideas:
- An electronics webstore
- A travel supply webstore for students studying abroad
- A webstore that sold just peanut butter
- A webstore dedicated to everything peanut butter (no joke)
- And so on...
However, nothing seemed particularly compelling. Luckily, Edlin repitched an idea we had originally passed on: a webstore dedicated to toys from our childhood. Instantly, this prompted conversations about Furbys, Legos, Super Soakers, pogs, yo-yos-- we couldn't stop.
We knew we had our hook.
Instead of just existing as a webstore, we hope Old Skool Toys can fulfill this niche that's missing in the online world. We would like Old Skool Toys to be a place to be nostalgic, to remember those yester-years, to reflect on those artifacts of our youth -- and maybe, in the process, buy something.
All proceeds are donated to the Toys for Tots foundation.
